Description:

Open fruits of Euonymus alatus photographed on 17 November 2013 at the Wilderness Walk of the Westerchester Land Trust, Westchester County, New York. Note that the seeds (not visible) are surrounded by red arils. Birds eat the seeds and aril, digest the arils, and pass the seeds through their digestive tracts thereby dispersing them to areas away from the parent plants.
